The Mid-Atlantic ADA Center provides information, guidance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), tailored to meet the needs of businesses, government entities, organizations, and individuals in the Mid-Atlantic Region (DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, and WV). If you are outside of this area, please visit our ADA National Network (ADANN) to locate your regional center.
The ADANN consists of ten regional centers located throughout the United States to educate the public about the ADA. We are not an enforcement or regulatory agency, but a helpful resource for obtaining information and personalized guidance on the requirements of the ADA.
Check out our training materials on successfully and respectfully interacting with people with disabilities. Our toolkit, including a brief PowerPoint presentation and related handouts, is designed for "front line" customer service staff.
This brief (approximately 15 minutes) conversation about service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA outlines the definitions of service animals under Department of Transportation and Department of Justice regulations, and answers common questions that businesses and state or local government agencies often have about procedures for interacting with individuals with disabilities who use service animals.
