Health Conditions and College: Accommodations, Considerations, and Information (8-10-21)

Students with chronic health and mental health conditions have unique needs and considerations when approaching the college search and selection process. When students graduate from high school and head to college, the law that governs accommodations shifts from IDEA to ADA. This shift also means a change in what is expected of students. This webinar will examine transition and explore:

  • Disability statistics related to college
  • The college search process and considerations for students with health conditions
  • The college accommodations process and the student’s role
  • Emergent themes and questions that students and families have

We will also share two student experiences from Disability Rights, Education, Activism, and Mentoring (DREAM) board members, Val Irwin and Rebecca Eli-Long. They will speak to self-advocacy and self advocacy fatigue, support networks, and share resources for students.
