Tip Sheet: How to Talk About Mental Health - Addressing Misunderstandings About Mental Health in the Media
The Learning and Working During the Transition to Adulthood Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (TACR) has published a new tip sheet, “How to Talk About Mental Health: Addressing Misunderstandings About Mental Health in the Media.” The tip sheet discusses how stories in media such as news and TV shows, and in social media, can sometimes use incorrect or offensive statements to describe mental health conditions. These misstatements may be taken as facts by people who may not know about mental health. The tip sheet also discusses how to talk about mental health, including myths and facts about mental health conditions, and how to be a mental health ally while talking with others. This tip sheet is part of TACR's informational tip sheets and issue briefs.
