    This training will provide an overview of the ADA, including the history behind its landmark passage, a summary of the provisions of each of the five titles, a brief description of its relationship to other laws, and ways the ADA can benefit you and/or your customers or constituents.

    ADA Title II: State and Local Governments

    This training will discuss how the ADA applies to state and local government entities: their rights and responsibilities, the systems they must have in place, and how Title II of the ADA is enforced. If you've ever wondered how the ADA applies to your local library, recreation center, or state park (for example), this training is for you!

    ADA and Employment

    The ADA's application to employment situations is one of the most complex ADA issues people face. If you've ever wrestled with these issues as an employer, employee, or advocate, you can benefit from this training. Topics will include: ADA Amendments Act, definition of disability, interactive processes, reasonable accommodations, documentation and confidentiality, disability disclosure.

    Get Ready for ADA Updates (VA)

    With the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) becoming effective January 1, 2009, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is hosting seminars that will outline how the ADAAA expands the ADA and what that means to companies. The seminars will take place Dec. 8 in Chicago and Dec. 12 in Washington, D.C. and will cover:

    • Understanding the ADA amendments
    • How the ADAAA changes the definition of disability
    • Its relationships with other laws
    • How employers should prepare
    • Changing the focus of employer responses to people with impairments
    • Reviewing job qualification standards and descriptions
    • Reasonable accommodation best practices
