Assistant Director

For the DBTAC: Mid-Atlantic ADA Center
(Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center)

The DBTAC: Mid Atlantic ADA Center is one of 10 regional Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTACs) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, which provides information, resources, training, research, and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other related disability issues. The DBTAC is a program administered by TransCen, Inc.

Overview of Position:

The incumbent will be responsible for providing on-site management of daily operations of the DBTAC and coordinating projects that are implemented throughout the Mid-Atlantic region (DE, MD, PA, VA, WV, and DC). This is a 40-hour position located in Rockville, Maryland and is not eligible for telecommuting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of daily operations of the DBTAC and staff.

  • Coordinate a variety of projects in the DBTAC. Projects may include editing the newsletter, creating reports, developing new materials, enhancing Web site presence, developing outreach activities, and facilitating research agenda and outcomes.

  • Maintain and enhance current knowledge of all aspects of the ADA and related laws, including new regulations and interpretations released by regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain and develop knowledge of related laws such as human resources policies, civil rights or state/local government statutes, and changes in federal disability programs, information technology in educational settings and other issues.

  • Assist with outreach and marketing efforts to solicit and promote the DBTAC and its technical assistance to businesses, trade associations, state and local government agencies, consumer and disability groups, employers, Latino and other minority communities, and other interested parties.

  • Provide telephone technical assistance to callers in an accurate, professional, and timely manner. Provide accurate information on the requirements of the law and ways to implement it.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated strong management skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Background in disability issues
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word

Salary depends on background and skills. Excellent vacation and benefits package. Position open until filled.
