Webinar: The ADAAA and Its Affect on Section 503 of the 73 Rehabilitation Act (10-9-2014)

October 2014 edition of the ADA In Focus Webinar Series

Presented by the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center

This session provided an overview of the 2008 ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), outlining the expanded definition of disability, and an overview of Section 503 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, which governs the hiring of people with disabilities by businesses with federal contracts. The discussion on the ADAAA addressed the reasons for the ADAAA, the expanded interpretation of the definition of disability, non-obvious disabilities, and reasonable accommodations. The Section 503 segment addressed its relationship to the ADAAA, the 7% untilization goal, invitation to self-disclose, data collection analysis, equal opportunity clause, and records access. The Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) will also be addressed, as many businesses that have Section 503 obligations also have obligations under VEVRAA.
