Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Agrees to Settle ADA Claim with Individual Who Is Deaf

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced a $121,000 settlement agreement with the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center (SRMC) that will result in improved policies and procedures to ensure effective communication with patients and their companions.

An investigation began following a complaint from an individual who is deaf, who alleged that the hospital failed to provide sign language interpreter services over the course of several emergency room visits, as well as many hospitalizations involving her mother.
