Universal Accessibility, Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response

December 12, 2017 2:00pm to 3:30pm

ADAinfocus Webinar SeriesPresented by TransCen, Inc. and the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center

Cost: Free

This is a 90 minute session.

Since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in August 2017, followed by hurricanes Irma and Maria and then the Napa, CA wildfires, there has been increased awareness of the disproportionate impact of disasters on people with disabilities and their communities. Equal access throughout the emergency management cycle is required and universal accessibility is an imperative for effective emergency preparedness and disaster response, optimizing limited resources throughout response and recovery. When communities begin the process of recovery after a disaster, they have an unprecedented opportunity for investing in universal design throughout all aspects of their recovery and mitigation strategy.
This session will address obligations, opportunities and strategies for achieving true community disaster resilience through civil rights compliance requirements and universal design approaches benefiting the whole community.

Presenters:
Paul Timmons, Board Chair, Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies
Marcie Roth, CEO, Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies
