20th Anniversary of the ADA!by Marian Vessels, Director, Mid-Atlantic ADA CenterWell, the Anniversary of the ADA was celebrated with lots of fanfare, speeches, ceremonies, walk and rolls, parties and regulations being released. Is this the end of our recognition? NO!! We now have part of the new ADA. We also have the much anticipated DOJ regulations that provide us guidance on such diverse areas as service animals, Segways and ticketing procedures. We are still awaiting the EEOC’s regulations of the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA). This is a unique opportunity for us in the next few years to re-educate those who know and care about disability issues; and to introduce the ADA for the first time to many more. I hope you were energized by the stories of the success, and motivated by the challenges still ahead to continue to assure that the promise of the ADA remains alive and well. We here at the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center look forward to continuing to provide the information you need to move forward. |
